WhatsApp To Support Older Android Versions Until 2020
WhatsApp is one of the most used mobile messaging applications out there, having not less than 1.2 billion monthly active users. Today we will give some good news for all owners of devices that run on older Android versions. As most of you already know, WhatsApp was going to stop supporting older versions of Android OS soon, but the developers have changed their mind.
We’ve told you a few days ago that the developers have extended the WhatsApp support for BlackBerry platform until the end of 2017. Well, today the company has announced that WhatsApp will still function on devices that run on Android 2.1 or Android 2.2. To make things even better, the WhatsApp will support these old Android versions until 2020.
While the news is pretty awesome for most of you, the owners of devices that run on earlier Android OS versions are not that happy because this means that the developers will (probably) not bring any important features and options to the application until 2020.
In fact, the reason why WhatsApp was going to stop supporting these old platforms was because the developers are trying to bring some new features and options to the application, which are not supported by BlackBerry or Android 2.1/2.2.
This announcement has been made on the official WhatsApp website, where it clearly says that the Android 2.3.7 and older will still be able to use the WhatsApp application until February 1, 2017.
However, the developers say that they will keep bringing new features and options to the WhatsApp application, but most of them will not be available on the mentioned older platforms. Hopefully, we will see the “Video Conference” feature being added to WhatsApp, which will finally allow users to make video calls with two or more friends on this application.
Do you own a device that runs on Android 2.1 or Android 2.2? Are you happy that the developers have extended the support for WhatsApp until 2020?
